Sarah Connolly CEng MIMMM
Sarah is an Innovation Technologist at Innovate UK, supporting Foundation industries to be sustainable and internationally competitive.
She studied it for her Masters in Materials Science at Mansfield College, Oxford and her Doctorate of Philosophy at Wolfson College, Oxford. His research has focused on the development of new alloys for the nuclear industry, in close collaboration with Rolls Royce and the National Nuclear Laboratory.
Sarah has worked in the materials converting industry for 7 years, first conducting research at the University of Oxford and WMG, University of Warwick, before joining Innovate UK. In 2020, she received the Frank Fitzgerald Medal and the Travel Award for excellence in professional development and breadth of technical knowledge.
She continued to be a strong supporter of education and skills; be an active STEM ambassador since 2012; lead the Focus on Materials Science residential start-up course at the University of Oxford between 2012 and 2017; be a founding member of the Making Materials Matter awareness project in 2017, by developing the Investigating Chocolate program; and be governor of a local academy from 2020.
She continues to represent early career professionals on the Advisory Board of IOM3, the Iron and Steel Board, and is President of the Coventry and Warwickshire Materials Society. She recently founded the Foundation Industries Future Leaders Group, with ED&I and Future Skill Requirements for Process Industries at the top of the list.
In her spare time, she enjoys running, cycling and baking.
